South African rapper, Kiernan Forbes better known as ‘AKA’ has passed on.
According to reports from Durban police in South Africa, the rapper was shot de@d on Friday night, 10th February 2023.
South African’s news outlet, IOL reported that another person believed to be AKA’s bodyguard was also wounded, while an unidentified person, who is understood to be a close friend of AKA, was also shot dead in the drive-by shooting.

Hours before his death, AKA who was based in Johannesburg flew into Durban on Friday for his birthday party which was scheduled to hold at Yugo Nightclub which he had advertised on his social media pages and asked fans to show up.
However, two hours before he was killed, AKA had gone to Fish Restaurant on Florida Road with some friends and his bodyguard and posted his location on his IG page. After the meal, AKA stepped outside the restaurant and was killed shortly after 10pm.
According to eyewitness accounts, the rapper AKA was reportedly shot and killed after an individual approached him and fired six shots at close range. However, other reports suggest that the shooting took place during a drive-by incident, with two cars passing by the restaurant where AKA was standing with friends. Tragically, one of his companions was also killed in the attack, while AKA’s bodyguard sustained injuries.
In the wake of this tragedy, AKA’s friend and fellow artist Da Les took to social media, posting a tweet shortly after news of the shooting spread.
AKA who was loved by many was 35-years-old. May his soul rest in peace, Amen.
