For a lot of people the appeal of design is in the body of work; the ability to relate or not, to understand the inspiration and desire in the lines and shapes, patterns and colors, in everything that is anything. Very few people seek to understand the constituence of design, Funfere Koroye considers the word ‘design’ mouthy, he calls himself an “Inventor Innovator”. He is one of the truly original people who are insightful and inspirational through their trail blazing effort to follow through with their visions.
A product engineer and an industrial designer, Globe-trotting in an effort to educate his love for the conceptualizing of design, what he calls a “love for engineering products, innovating through design and the process of creating objects with a function” Basically making pretty things that are very functional.
Funfere Koroye is the founder of Fusion Kevlar, a company that conceptualizes product designs, branding, lifestyle and editorials. With a masters in product design from the Domus Academy in Milan and an undergrad in industrial design at the Savannah College of art and design, Funfere is a bundle of design interests as he also is undergoing a shoe making course in Florence as well as being proficient in design software which he uses to indulge his love for product innovation and engineering.
For Funfere, the urge to use products as a course for innovation through design surpasses beyond a product or object, a frontier for bringing change back home starting from applying a thought process and a design element to the most mundane things, his vision is for an industrially structured Nigeria.
Through several projects; a shoe line of notable mention which he claims is inspired by his childhood games of soccer and the aspiration of internationally branded footwear that never quite met the ideal due to a lacking in sensitivity to territorial and cultural differences, his shoe line is a “cultural appropriation” that merges aesthetic and innovation.
His plans branch out to a global movement for Nigeria that involves better roads, less traffic and clean drainages, in due time as he builds a network of like-minded individuals looking to apply their exceptional skill set in design to create a futuristic innovative Nigeria.
Funfere aspires for a solidified industrial sector for Nigeria and intends to create a manufacturing and innovation consultancy in West Africa. At the moment he continues to gain expertise in his craft and fine tune his plan to come home and help build a more aesthically appealing country.
