Fashion History: The history of Giambattista Valli

In this week’s fashion history, we will be taking a look at the fashion history of Giambattista Valli. Giambattista Valli is a Paris-based luxury fashion house that was founded by namesake Giambattista Valli in 2005. The fashion house is popular for its elegant and unique designs.

Giambattista Valli born June 1966 is an Italian fashion designer with creative designs. He was born and raised in Rome and completed his studies at an Italian secondary school and also earned a degree in art.

In 1986, he enrolled in the Instituto Europeo del Design after he was inspired by Michelangelo Antonioni movies, Yves Saint Laurent, and Gruau drawings. In 1987, Valli proceeded to enroll at Central Saint Martin’s College of Art and Design in London and started a foundation illustration course.

After returning to Italy, Valli worked as an assistant in Roberto Capucci’s studio. While at Roberto Capucci’s studio, Valli made use of vivid colors and presented elegant haute couture designs which made him after two years be invited into the luxury fashion house Fendi. Valli worked at Fendi from 1990 to 1995 and proceeded to work with Krizia From 1995 to 1996 after his relocation to Milan. Giambattista Valli then moved to Paris and worked as Creative Director for Emanuel Ungaro from 1998 to 2004.

In 2005, Giambattista Valli launched his fashion house and held his debut solo exhibition in Paris. in 2010, he opened his first store in Boissy d’Anglas Rue. The boutique is dedicated to Valli’s ready-to-wear line including jewelry, bags, shoes, accessories, and furs. Over the years, Valli has designed for different celebrities and royals including Queen Rania of Jordon as well as Princess Clotilde Courau.
