Windows 11 is finally bringing a highly requested feature to the Start Menu

Microsoft is testing some of the most often requested modifications to the Windows 11 Start Menu. Beta testers now have more customization choices in the latest Windows Insider Dev Channel update, including the ability to right-click on Start to quickly access Start settings.

Microsoft describes these enhancements, which are available in Windows 11 build 22509, as “a good combination of improvements.” With the updates, beta testers can now select the “more pins” or “more suggestions” layout option to display an extra row of pins or recommendations, respectively. This is one of the most requested features among Windows 11 users, and it should make it quicker to open commonly used apps.

However, it is not the end of the personalization changes. In this build, Microsoft has also introduced the clock, date, and time to all taskbars on secondary monitors. This feature is not yet available to everyone, and it is only available to a subset of Windows Insiders. Microsoft aims to monitor feedback and see how it works before releasing it to the general public.

Among the other improvements in this release are further efforts to migrate additional settings from the Control Panel to the new Settings app. Advanced sharing options, as well as device-specific pages under printers and scanners, are a few examples.

Microsoft has even improved the overall quality of life. When you turn on Bluetooth or Wi-Fi while in airplane mode, the radios will remember your preference and make it easier to stay connected while traveling.

For the time being, the modifications to the Start Menu are only being tested with Windows Insiders in the Dev Channel. After beta testing is completed, it is expected to be rolled out to normal Windows 11 customers. Other Windows 11 features, such as the new Paint app, have been available for several months after being tested in the Dev Channel.

If you truly desire the new Start Menu experience, you must enroll your device in the Windows Insider Program. To do so, press Windows Key + I on your keyboard, then navigate to Windows Update > Windows Insider Program > Dev Channel. Your computer will then restart several times. Keep in mind, though, that registering your PC in the Dev channel may result in a slew of issues.
