Basic Tips On How to Upload a Video to YouTube From Android or iPhone

Do you want to start using YouTube but aren’t sure how to make your first video? You can submit your video directly to your YouTube channel from your iPhone or Android device if you recorded it with your smartphone. Here’s how to do it.

How to use an Android phone to publish videos to YouTube
• Download the latest YouTube app for your phone or tablet • Log in to your YouTube Channel (this may be the same as a Gmail account, or you need to set up a YouTube account)

• Log in to Accounts and select My Channel ; Videos from the drop-down menu.

• To add a new video, tap the small red button with the white arrow.

• Select the location where the video will be saved (gallery, Dropbox, GoogleDrive, etc.)

• Make changes to the video (the blue handles on the timeline allow you to trim the video)

• Decide on a title.

• Choose your visibility settings (Public, Unlisted, Private)

Choose one of the following visibility choices for your video on the “Set Visibility” screen that appears:

Anyone on YouTube can watch your video if it is set to public.
Unlisted: When you choose this option, only the individuals you share the video’s URL with will be able to watch it.
Private: Only you and the people you choose will be able to see the video.

• To upload the video, tap the paper plane-shaped icon (upper right).

How to use an iPad or iPhone to submit videos to YouTube (method 1)
• Update your YouTube app on your phone or tablet

• Log in to your YouTube channel (this may be the same as a Gmail account, or you need to set up a YouTube account)

• Open the pictures app by tapping on it.

• Choose a video to upload.

• In the lower left corner of the screen, tap the up Arrow-shaped Share symbol.

• From the share option, choose YouTube (if this is not part of the menu, click more)

• Write a title and a brief description for your project.

• Choose your visibility settings (Public, Unlisted, Private)

• In the top right corner of your screen, tap Publish.

How to use an iPad or iPhone to submit videos to YouTube (method 2)
• Sign into your YouTube Channel • Open the YouTube app on your phone or tablet (this may be the same as a Gmail account, or you need to set up a YouTube account)

• Select the video camera icon from the menu.

• Allow YouTube access to your device’s photographs by tapping OK.

• Choose the video you wish to share.

• Tap the scissor icon in the lower left corner of the screen to edit the video (the blue handles on the timeline allow you to trim the video)

• Write a title and a brief description for your project.

• Choose your visibility settings (Public, Unlisted, Private)

• In the top right corner of the screen, tap Upload.

Adding closed captions and subtitles
• From a tablet or computer, go to YouTube and select My Channel from the menu on the left side of the page.

• From the menu, choose Uploads.

• Select the video that will be subtitled.

• Select Video Manager from the drop-down menu to the right of the video.

• From the edit menu adjacent to the video, select Subtitles and CC.

• Select the language for the subtitles by clicking Add new subtitles or CC.

• Choose whether you want subtitles or closed captions.

• Using the chosen method, follow the captioning instructions.

• Double-check that the captioning is correct.

Using a tablet or computer to edit the video
• From a tablet or computer, go to YouTube and select My Channel from the menu on the left side of the page.

• From the menu, choose Uploads.

• Select the video that will be altered.

• Select Video Manager from the drop-down menu to the right of the video.

• From the left-hand menu, select Create > Video Editor.

• To cut the video, drag the blue handles (original video will remain saved to your channel)

• Select Create Video from the menu.
