Wild rumors claim an unlikely feature is coming to the new MacBook Pros

Apple’s forthcoming MacBook Pros will include a notch similar to the iPhone, according to a last-minute rumor circulating online. However, don’t take it too seriously because the rumor is most likely false. It doesn’t make any sense at all, in fact.

As Notebook Check has noted, there has been a rush of Mac speculations in recent days, some of which are outright ridiculous. Because of Apple’s planned ‘Unleashed’ event on Monday, speculation is rife, but probably the weirdest claim is that the new MacBook Pros will feature a notch in the display.

However, this is unlikely to occur because there is no compelling motive to do so. The infrared sensor for Face ID is housed in a notch on the iPhone. So the only reason Apple would put a notch on the Mac is for that feature, which won’t be available for at least another year.

There are, of course, other logistical concerns. Many people despise the notch, especially since every major Android competitor has already done away with it. Why bring it to the Mac if it isn’t required?

The rumor is based on a lengthy post by Reddit member U/NickXiao about some probable features in the latest MacBooks. His first line demonstrates how trustworthy he is.

It reads:

“Before I lay all these information on you, I have to be honest —— all of them are secondhand or even thirdhand news, as I don’t have any sources myself …”

Not exactly persuasion. The rest of the article has some more prevalent (and more credible) speculations concerning mini-LED screens, ProMotion, a redesign, and greater port options.

Other reports include a completely black keyboard (rather than simply the keys), larger fans, and a thicker chassis. A 1080p webcam, TrueTone sensors, and a mic array would all fit in the alleged notch. However, it’s unclear why a notch would be required for such items.

So don’t hold your breath for this rumor, but don’t let it stop you from being excited. There are a lot of exciting things to look forward to at Apple’s event. We’ll simply have to wait and see what happens.
