Controversial media personality, Daddy Freeze has stated that South African singer, Tyla deserved her victory over Nigerian artists at the 66th Grammys.
Recall that Nigerian Afrobeat stars, Burna Boy, Ayra Starr, Davido, and Asake faced disappointment at the 66th Grammy Awards after Tyla, the sole non-Nigerian nominee in the inaugural Best African Music Performance category, clinched the award.
Following this, upset Nigerian music fans questioned why Tyla’s song “Water” won instead of popular Nigerian songs, accusing the Recording Academy of unfairness.
Weighing into the drama created especially by Davido’s fans, Daddy Freeze in a recent Instagram live session maintained that Tyla’s Grammy win was justified.
He countered fans who stated that their favourite was robbed.
He said,
“Tyla’s Grammy win over Nigerian artists was not ojoro [scam]. I don’t see the ojoro. I’m struggling to see the ojoro.
“Globally, in my opinion, ‘Water’ was a slightly bigger song [than Nigerian songs nominated]. It doesn’t mean those songs were not big. They were very big. It’s just that ‘Water’ has more vitality. It is massive on Tiktok.”
