According to sources, the Top Gun: Maverick star did not attend the ceremony because his ex-wife was present following their bitter divorce over 20 years ago.

Cruise’s film received six nominations, including the coveted Best Picture Award.

Cruise and Kidman divorced in 2001, allegedly because she refused to join him in the Church of Scientology.

‘Tom was not there because she was there, and he did not want a run-in,’ a source told DailyMail.com.

However, sources close to Cruise claimed that his absence was ‘not personal’ and was due to scheduling issues, though they did not specifically respond to the claim that it was related to Kidman’s presence.

Cruise, 60, and his ex-wife have not attended the same Oscars parties this year, nor have they been seen at the same event in years.

Kidman, 55, who walked the Oscars red carpet with her country singer husband Keith Urban, 55, before packing on serious PDA during the show, was noticeably absent from her Scientologist ex’s Oscars luncheon last month.
