MEET THE DESIGNER: Anthony Vaccarello, Creative Director of Saint Laurent

In this week’s designer profile, we will be checking out the creative director of Saint Laurent, Anthony Vaccarello, and his evolution as a fashion designer and a creative director.

Italian fashion designer Anthony Vaccarello is the current creative director of Saint Laurent and has worked as the creative director of the French luxury fashion house since 2016.

Anthony Vaccarello

Anthony Vaccarello was born on January 1982 in Brussels, Belgium, and is the only child of his parent. His father worked as a cartongesso maker and his mother worked in an office. After completing one year of law school, Anthony Vaccarello enrolled at La Cambre in 2000 to study sculpture and he ended up switching to a fashion course and graduated in 2006 with honors.

His graduate collection was presented at the Hyères in the South of France. The collection which was inspired by La Cicciolina artist’s muse and politician won first place and also captured the attention of Karl Lagerfeld who offered him a future designer position for Fendi.

MEET THE DESIGNER: Anthony Vaccarello, Creative Director of Saint Laurent

Vaccarello worked under Fendi for two years specializing in fur designs. In 2009, he went back to Paris and debuted his eponymous ready-to-wear collection. His collection won the 2011 ANDAM prize and also generated a global buzz after Model Anja Rubik wore a revealing white Vaccarello dress to 2012 met ball.

In 2014, Vaccarello was employed to create a capsule collection for Versus Versace, a diffusion line of the Versace house gifted by founder Gianni Versace to his sister Donatella Versace. He also became a creative director and spent three years working with the fashion house.

In April 2016, Vaccarello was appointed the creative director of Saint Laurent and has been with the fashion house ever since.

Saint Laurent Spring Summer 2023 Menswear Collection

His latest collection for the fashion house Saint Laurent is the Saint Laurent Spring Summer 2023 menswear collection. the collection pays homage to how Anthony Vaccarello dressed in the 2000s. the collection features trench coats, lanky pants, gauzy tops, and many more styles.
