Maison Valentino Resort 2023 Collection showcased amazing details of exceptional designs that kept audience on their toes.

One of the season’s biggest shows was undoubtedly the Valentino presentation, where the hoopla often obscured the view of the clothing’ obvious beauty.
Because the resort collection was intended to be a forerunner to the spring 2023 excursion, having a dialogue about resort with Pierpaolo Piccioli was timely. Without the show’s stagecraft, it served as an illustrative example of Piccioli’s philosophical and aesthetic thinking.
He gave the collection the name Surfaces to emphasize how the textures and shapes were transformed into a kind of simple continuum that covered the entire body. Although Piccioli has been experimenting with minimalism as a way to emphasize the uniqueness of the wearer for a while—”you reduce the excess on the garment to spotlight the attention on the face,” he said—actually it’s a concept rooted in Valentino Garavani’s 1960s aesthetics, when lines were simple, volumes were close to the body, and decoration was kept to a minimum. Sensual fluidity added a sensual element without detracting from the simplicity of the design.
