Microsoft Edge’s Context Menu Will Now Include Office

Microsoft Edge is making headlines once again with its latest version, which includes Office in the context menu and advertisements on the new tab page.

Microsoft Edge has received a lot of attention recently. The browser is making headlines once again with its latest version, which includes Office in the context menu and advertisements on the new tab page. Both will almost certainly be divisive changes to Windows‘ built-in browser.

Beginning with the Office integration, which was discovered by Windows Latest, Edge’s right-click menu now includes a new option labeled “New Office Tab.” When you click it, a sub-menu appears with options to open a Word, Powerpoint, or Excel tab. Surprisingly, the feature does not appear to be restricted to Microsoft 365 subscribers only, so anyone should be able to use it.

There will always be people who are dissatisfied with a change, and a Reddit thread has emerged with users complaining that the context menu is too bloated. One Reddit user summed up their feelings succinctly, saying, “Oh god no… “There’s even more garbage in the context menu.”

If that doesn’t irritate people, the other part of this update will, because Microsoft appears to be adding even more ads to Edge. Some users are seeing advertisements for services such as Microsoft Start, the company’s new homepage.

The advertisements appear to be aimed at introducing you to other Microsoft services, but this could only be the beginning. We’ll have to wait and see if third-party advertisements begin to appear in the browser’s new tab page in the future.
