The Met Gala red carpet consistently creates some of the most iconic celebrity fashion moments in history. The “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion” event held in New York City yesterday night being the first Monday in May was no exception, with a plethora of A-list celebrities on the red carpet dressed in couture. Attendees who thoughtfully and unexpectedly complied with this year’s theme and “the garden of time” dress code were the best-dressed of the evening.

However, not all guests were able to hit the mark, as some failed to interpret the theme cohesively or fell victim to over-the-top embellishments and questionable styling choices.

In our list today, we will be giving the best dressed, the bad and then the ugly. So stay tune!

Best-dressed

Zendaya attracted attention with two distinct looks: a vintage Givenchy dress from the brand’s spring 1996 collection, and her own take on the Margiela style. Chris Hemsworth sported a sleek Tom Ford suit, Bad Bunny wore a sculptured Margiela suit, and Jennifer Lopez went for a shimmering Schiaparelli outfit.

Naturally, florals turned out to be the night’s standout outfit. Celebrities took on various forms, becoming sophisticated bouquets. There was Gigi Hadid wearing a three-dimensional flowery ballgown by Thom Browne and Nicki Minaj wearing a Marni dress adorned in hand-painted metal flowers. In contrast, Adwoah Aboah had the greatest pregnancy moment of the evening when she wore a crop top and a long skirt from H&M in a red floral ensemble.

The Bad Dressed

The official dress code was “The Garden of Time.” While the event had many highs, some stars ended up providing low moments on the red carpet. Despite her well-known sense of style, the founder of Kylie Cosmetics wore a more subdued champagne-colored Oscar de la Renta gown than normal. Jenner was even dubbed the “goddess of disappointment” by one user on X following the Met Gala this year.

Even Met Gala co-chair Chris Hemsworth wore a cream-coloured suit to the event, though his ensemble could’ve very well been worn to any other Hollywood photo-op.

The Ugly

While some made effort to look good or try to look good others just showed up wearing the first thing they found in their wardrobe. Viewers on X  (formerly Twitter) voiced their annoyance; “This theme wasn’t HARD,” one person posted on the platform. “Like Y’ALL need to find some new stylists cause this is unacceptable??!”

“THE THEME IS GARDEN OF TIME. WHAT IS SO HARD ABOUT THAT?” another person wrote, while someone else said: “WHY DOES NOBODY UNDERSTAND THE THEME?”
