LOOK BOOK FEATURE: The Urbanity collection by David Omigie

The Dashiki is making a huge comeback at the moment, particularly in the wardrobes of young, stylish women. As much as I think it’s a bold fashion statement, I usually feel it’s not properly styled. For instance, a wide or skinny belt at the waist, to give some waist definition, would be great! Which is what David Omigie of the Daltimore clothing label has done with his Dashiki-inspired collection, which he has aptly named “urbanity”, as I believe it is an urban take on the traditional dashiki. Putting out a collection for both men and women to me, was a mark of genius, however, he will have to forgive me for loving the mens-wear line more. Styling the menswear dashikis with a traditional Hausa straw-hat, skinny jeans, a button-down shirt, a face cap, boots, running shoes and flats was to me a mark of creative genius. I particularly loved the dashiki with the high-low hemline (which featured in both the menswear and womenswear) and the womenswear dashiki with the open sides and styled with hot pants, sexy-open toe sandals and a wreath of flowers around her head(an accessory I have noticed around the heads of some fashion-forward ladies at certain events).

Although the background of the shoot was a bit distracting ( a major rule for lookbook shoots is to have a clean background, devoid of any distractions, to keep the focus on the garment the model is displaying), it thought it was overall, a very creative collection. See the collection below:
