John Cena makes new friends in HBO Max’s Peacemaker trailer

In The Suicide Squad last summer, an ex-WWE wrestler made his DC Extended Universe debut as Peacemaker. Peacemaker, for the uninitiated, is a fictional character from DC Comics. However, if there isn’t a grade lower than “Z,” one would have to be created in order to appropriately illustrate how esoteric Peacemaker is. Regardless, when John Cena returns to HBO Max’s Peacemaker series early next year, that might change.

The first official trailer for Peacemaker, which appears to take place immediately after The Suicide Squad, was shown at DC FanDome. Peacemaker was almost killed by Idris Elba’s Bloodsport in the movie because Cena’s character was willing to murder his friends to safeguard America’s deepest secrets. That’s not a good approach to make friends. Peacemaker, on the other hand, might have a chance to redeem himself. Even if it’s a remote possibility…

Peacemaker’s support crew is also introduced in the trailer. Emilia Harcourt and John Economos, played by Jennifer Holland and Steve Agee, are reprising their roles as Emilia Harcourt and John Economos, respectively, from The Suicide Squad. Peacemaker’s field handler, Harcourt, is clearly impressed with her abilities. For Peacemaker’s mission, Economos is in charge of the technology and tactics.

Clemson Murn, played by Chukwudi Iwuji, is Peacemaker’s new boss, and his offer is simple. Peacemaker gets to remain out of prison if he “kills terrible people” for Murn. Leota Adebayo (Danielle Brooks) is the team’s final member, and she’s the only one that appears to care about Peacemaker as a person. We’ll have to wait and see how long that lasts.

The T-1000 himself, Robert Patrick, plays Peacemaker’s father, Auggie Smith. And it’s easy to see why Auggie’s kid, Christopher Smith, has entirely retreated into his Peacemaker identity once we see him.

Finally, Adrian Chase, a.k.a. Vigilante, is introduced. By day, he’s a district attorney, and by night…and on certain days, he’s a murderous crime fighter. In this film, Vigilante gives off Deadpool vibes, but he may provide some more comedy to the show.

Peacemaker was created by James Gunn, who also wrote and directed the majority of the episodes. On January 13, 2022, it will air on HBO Max.
