Hakkunde Movie Review: Why You Need To Go See Hakkunde Movie In Cinemas

Who says you can’t set a standard with your first feature film?!

Those were the words I managed to utter after seeing Hakkunde movie when it premiered on Sunday amidst the high and mighty in the movie industry and cooperate sector turn up at Genesis Deluxe Cinemas to finally get to see the much anticipated movie of a jobless graduate Akande played by Kunle IdowuFrank Donga” fame.

With mind blowing pictures, one would conclude that truly Asurf Oluseyi has made a good movie through blood and sweat employing high definition standards of cinematography that would spark up a new direction for emerging indie film makers.

Hakkunde tells the tales surrounding the struggles and dream of a young graduate Akande convincingly played by Kunle Idowu “Frank Donga” on his journey to self- discovery.

Four years after graduation, an unemployed Akande who lives with his elder sister Yewande (Toyin Aimakhu) has to deal with her taunts as he carries a placard around the city of Lagos in search of a job.

After his encounter with Lagos touts popularly known as Omoni Eleh after he slammed on a lady selling raw eggs, he found himself in a life and death situation. While Akande was being chased, luckily he was rescued by an ‘Okada man,’ Ibrahim (Ibrahim Daddy), who through series of events leads him to the Northern part of Nigeria, Kaduna, where his journey to self-discovery actually begins.

Being Kunle Idowu’s first major lead role as an actor, I would give me a thumbs up as he went out of his comfort zone being Comedy which he is being known for even though there were still traces of comic relief in Akande character but Kunle Idowu’s ability to give the character a true interpretation without having to bring in his Frank Donga factor “naïve altitude” on screen giving the audience a promise of originality, talent and professionalism.

Aunty Yewande beautifully played by Toyin Animakhu with such a brilliant performance automatically made her win me over as a fan as she delivered a high comic performance with no slapstick.

Am I leaving out the Northern Kennywood actors like the beautiful Rahama Sadau who played the character Aisha, she carried her role and character interpretation effortlessly without stress in her attempt to depict a widow whom no one wants to see around the village anymore.  Also actors like Ibrahim Daddy who played Ibrahim and a heartfelt performance from Maryam Booth whose killing smiles still lives chills in my veins as she interpreted her character of Binta with so much prowess and all other Northern characters did quite impressive. I can beat my chest and say the casting was right, the drama was convincing and the cinematography was Hollywood standard and the directing was amazing.
