Chanel Fashion Show is loving life on the Beach

Walking in to a Chanel show, one never knows what to expect. Karl Lagerfeld and co. have shipped an iceberg into the Grand Palais, turned the space into a woodland wonderland, and even launched a mock rocket ship. This season, the message was one of serene calm and happy summer days. Along one edge of the Palais, Chanel erected a beach, complete with waves, sand, and Brad Koenig as lifeguard.

To guests, including Caroline de Maigret, Vanessa Paradis, and Poppy Delevingne, the relaxed spirit was welcome after nearly a month of shows in New York, London, Milan, and Paris. “It is literally so magical that I can’t really believe I’m here,” said Delevingne of the scenery.

Still, even a resplendent set couldn’t detract from one of Lagerfeld’s most concise and of-the-moment shows of late. Between the clever logomania, the on-trend bike shorts, and the wide array of light, breezy summer dresses, Chanel’s belles will have lots of options come springtime. “The message was enjoying life,” said Paradis, with De Maigret summing it up succinctly as: “Don’t worry be happy.” Amen to that.
