On Friday, the Lagos State Domestic and S*xual V!olence Agency confirmed this.

The International Federation of Women Lawyers called the decision a “welcome development.”

“All details of s*x convicts are immediately enrolled into the s*x offenders registers once a conviction is secured,” said the agency’s Executive Secretary, Titilola Vivour-Adeniyi.

On Thursday, Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo of the Ikeja Domestic Violence and S*xual Offenses Court sentenced Baba Ijesha to 16 years in prison, with the sentences running concurrently for five years.

The Lagos State Directorate of Public Prosecutions had charged him with six counts of child defilement, including indecent treatment of a child, s*xual assault, attempted s*xual assault by penetration, and segxwal assault by penetration.

Despite the prosecution’s contention that the offenses violated sections 135, 137, 261, 202, 262, and 263 of the Lagos State Criminal Law 2015, which call for life in prison for repeat offenders, Baba Ijesha pleaded not guilty to all counts.

In court, a Closed-Circuit Television video recording detailing his relationship with the victim, who was said to be a minor, was shown.

However, in delivering the verdict, Justice Taiwo found the defendant guilty of four of the six counts against him, stating that the prosecution failed to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that the defendant was guilty of all charges against him.

Baba Ijesha was found guilty of counts two, three, four, and five; he was sentenced to three years in prison for count two, five years for count three, three years for count four, and five years for count five.

On June 24, 2021, the defendant was arraigned, and six prosecution witnesses, including Princess, an actress and comedienne; the 14-year-old minor, a child expert, Mrs Olabisi Ajayi-Kayode; and a medical doctor, Dr Aniekan Makanjuola, testified against him.
