Ace Nigerian comedian, Atunyota Alleluia Akpobome better known as Ali Baba has reacted to the arrest of crossdresser, Bobrisky by the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC).
Glamsquad reported that Bobrisky was arrested at Pinnock Estate, in Lagos State on April 3, 2024, at 3 pm by the EFCC over currency mutilation and abuse of the Naira. The commission’s spokesperson, Dele Oyewale confirmed his arrest.
The commission went as far as releasing his mugshot along with a detailed post explaining his arrest, attributing it to his attendance at Eniola Ajao’s movie premiere, “Ajanaku.”
In response to the arrest, Netizens uncovered a video showing him spraying money at the movie premiere, with many coming to his defence, citing it as a common tradition at Nigerian events. Some alleged that the EFCC was merely using him as a scapegoat to send a message to others.
Reacting to Bobrisky’s arrest Ali Baba questioned why the crossdresser was arrested as he noted how many are abusing the naira notes at events.
Sharing a photo of men adorned in traditional Igbo attire, showering money at an event, Ali Baba raised a question about EFCC’s selective enforcement, pondering why these men had not faced arrest while others had. Describing this apparent double standard as unjust, he highlighted a case where a female celebrity was sentenced for a similar offence, emphasizing the need for fairness and consistency in law enforcement.
Ali Baba jokingly stated that now, the commission has arrested another lady, Bobrisky for the same thing that men get away with. He lamented over women are being treated in the country.
He wrote;
“And Bobrisky was arrested for what again?
Because they are men?
This is not right.
The other time on celebrity lady was sentenced for this same thing.
Now, EFCC has arrested another lady for the same thing that men get away with.
The way we treat women in this country is not good.
Mennnnnn… I just tayaaa”.
