High-profile  Nollywood actor Alex Ekubo has hailed the duo of Chioma Chukwuaka Akpotha and Omoni Oboli as heroes of Nigerian democracy.

It will be recalled that Chioma Chukwuka Akpotha encountered violence at her polling station during the presidential election on Saturday, February 25, 2023. The actress shared a troubling video on social media, which showed how thugs tried to disrupt the electoral process.

Over the years, Omoni has been vocal about political matters and has even gone further to appear in films that tell political stories such as “Wives On Strike” and “Love Is War. She also flew all the way from Canada to exercise her franchise in the presidential polls, something rare among Nigerians in the diaspora.

While Ekubo praised Chioma Chukwuka for her confidence amidst attacks on her voting centre, he hailed Omoni Oboli’s consistency in the political space.

Ekubo said:

“Hero of democracy, you voted but did they beat you, If they did not beat you then your vote did not count. Omoni is one of the most consistent people every election cycle, can you imagine she flew all the way from Canada to vote.”

The presidential candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, emerged winner of the 2023 presidential election despite complaints that the polls were rigged, violent, and did not meet the standard to be considered a free and fair election.

Chioma Chukwuka and Omoni Oboli strongly supported the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi. Tinubu’s victory has been rejected by the opposition PDP and Labour Party. Peter Obi has filed a case in court to challenge the electoral process and has vowed to prove that he won the election.
