Plus Size Fashion Week Africa Debut

By Pamela Echemunor

Fashion has taken a turn for the best, as more and more women are embracing their fuller, thicker and God given curves. For centuries the standard of beauty was centered around the skinny size zero to two fashion models, but with the evolution of the fashion industry it finally pays to embrace and love the body you are in. To revoltionalize this phatablous industry of curvy women, Plus Size fashion week was born.

The event is geared towards promoting plus size fashion from this part of the world. The Plus Is Diverse Campaign celebrates representation of plus size women from different ethnic groups and are very honoured to be apart of such a great event. This will pave the way for many to see the fashion standards of Africa. The event will feature women the full figured curvy women who aren’t ashamed to strut their stuff because they love the body they were given.
The Plus Is Diverse Models are elated to be walking on the runway for Plus SizeFashion Week Africa. To be apart of something that is once again breaking boundaries in the plus size Fashion industry is amazing.

ABOUT THE EVENT

Opening in Lagos for the first time is the only fashion runway show ever dedicated to Plus Size Models and Apparels. In the light of realities, this will be the first TRULY AFRICAN fashion runway show! African culture celebrates the healthy looking plus sized woman. She is the everyday woman in the African Office, Shop, Marketplace and on the streets.

Western Fashion Trends has tended to alienate the plus sized African woman, almost to the point of stigmatising her body size. This fact has tended to question the integrity of conventional African Fashionrunways with ‘zero’ sized models strutting the runways being viewed by audiences, 85% of whom are plussized! This tended to create a divide, between the audience and the fashion show.

To Bridge this gap and put the real needs of the average African woman on the runway, the  Plussize Fashion Week is finally born, thus bringing an African Fashion Feel to an African Audience.

The Plussize Fashion Week is poised to celebrate the African Woman’s Body, while not excluding zero sized and other sized models and apparels as well. It also not a female exclusive fashion show, male apparels and models are also to be showcased.
