Lessons to learn from Chierika Ukogu the Olympic Rower

A few days ago Chierika Ukogu a Nigerian American rower finished second place in the single Finals of the rowing events at the Rio Olympics. Although she narrowly missed the bronze medal, she was recognized, made Nigerians proud and made several history for the country.

The beauty of it is, she would get another shot next Olympics all things being equal. The Rower was self-sponsored and this is were I would like to emphasize and pick my lessons from;

Lesson One; Nigerians should stop looking to the government to provide support as we know too well what to expect from them. I believe the athletes sponsored by the country didn’t have as comfortable an outing as Chierika did.

Lesson Two; We should learn to help each other. I don’t know who sponsored Chierika but one thing is certain, she must have gotten the moral support from those that love her.

Lesson Three; It is always good to represent your country; Carry your flag high anywhere you find yourself. No other country is going to be truly yours at the end of the day.
