Tobi Amusan makes final shortlist for 2022 World Athletics Awards

Tobi Amusan has been named one of five finalists for Women’s Athlete of the Year in 2022, glamsquad reports.

On Monday night, November 14, World Athletics announced the athletes’ names on its official website.

 

 

Amusan, the current world record holder in the 100m hurdles, was named to the shortlist after a remarkable year in which she set a new world record of 12.12 seconds in the 100m hurdles at the World Athletics Championships, Oregon 2022.

 

Amusan will compete for the prestigious award against Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce of Jamaica, Kimberly Garcia of Peru, Sydney McLaughlin of the United States, and Yulimar Rojas of Venezuela.

 

The 24-year-old Nigerian and African was the first to accomplish the feat.

The finalists were chosen through a three-way voting process involving social media fans, the World Athletics Council, and the World Athletics Family, according to WA.

 

“The five athletes have achieved sensational performances across a range of athletics disciplines in 2022, at the World Athletics Championships Oregon22, World Athletics Indoor Championships Belgrade 22, one-day meeting circuits, and other events around the world,” WA wrote.

 

The winner will be announced as part of the World Athletics Awards 2022 on December 5.
