SAM UCHE ANYAMELE: You can never satisfy the audience

We recently caught up with the creatively gifted Sam Uche Anyamele who has been a regular face at the theatre stage, on the TV screen and also TV drama series like Super story at the Homevida awards organized workshop for writers and directors at the Pan Atlantic School of Media and Communications in which he was one of the facilitators at the workshop. He opens up on his journey into film and Nollywood film industry.

Can you actually tell about you like more about you as a film maker?

My name is Sam Uche Anyamele, I am a film maker because it’s an all-round activity for me produce, direct, act and probably supervise.

What can you say about the industry right now, are we getting to that point to say we are there?

Well, we have actually left where we were so there are a lot of improvements, there are a lot of inceptions right now. We are moving up very strongly and I am also proud to be part of it too. So we have left far from where we were.

What do you think the audience wants to see on screen right now?

Well, you will never satisfy the audience; you will keep getting feed backs from the audience and then we build up from the feedback; we always get feedback to get to know what next.

What would you have done other than film?

Well definitely I would have done any other thing which I am also trying to do right now like entrepreneurship. Film for me is more less a performing than a profession, I find it in my comfort zone; stuffs like acting, reading scripts and all which comes very natural to me. Well, I am a bit of entertainment and a bit of entrepreneurship at large but then filming for me still comes very interestingly okay for me so with or without these I would still have been in film because it comes very natural to me.

Tell us about that one character that you felt really deep about?

Okay, well there is this guy called Roscos Mark in one TV series I shot which was called Chess Players. I like that character because I portrayed the role of a boss I worked with in a real life and so being given an opportunity to play that, I just had to become that boss. I don’t know if the series has hit the air ways though, that’s one then apart from the Richard in super story at my early stage which was very challenging for me because it was a first major film for me because one was not able to come up with such thought.

So can you tell the young film makers out there what they actually need to do to get out there?

I think they should first of all go for trainings, keep striving and ensure that one improves or get better at what you are doing because one thing I have discovered as a film maker is that once you do a good thing or once you get recognized, you get more contacts and the more you keep doing it; you are sure to get better at what you are doing.
