The incident occurred during a Monday performance at the theme park. When the other performers realized their colleague had gone missing, they banded together to pull him out as the audience was ushered out, and the performance was canceled.

CPR was administered to the performer on the spot for more than 5 minutes. His colleagues were able to restart his heart, and he was then rushed to the hospital. It’s unclear what his current condition is.

The Los Angeles County Fire Department responded to a call from the California-based theme park shortly before 2:10 p.m. on Monday, January 23, about a “unresponsive patient” who was given CPR and was breathing before being taken to the hospital, according to KTLA.

A spokesperson for Universal Studios Hollywood confirmed the incident.

“We can confirm that a performer from one of our long-standing show vendors was taken to the hospital after a stunt during an afternoon performance, and our thoughts are with him as he receives treatment. The event’s specifics are being investigated.”

According to the show’s official website, “WaterWorld—A Live Sea War Spectacular is the world’s most complex combination of high-tech special effects, pyrotechnics, flame, and human stunt work. The attraction immerses visitors in the excitement of the action, which includes hundreds of stunts and fiery special effects.”

Some of the performance highlights, according to the show description, “include giant fireballs rising 50 feet in the air and cascading to earth in a spectacular wall of fire and a seaplane that swoops in directly above the audience, skidding across the water and coming to an explosive crash landing just inches away from startled spectators.”
