BBnaija S7: “My father named us four after gods” – Hermes opens up on controversy surrounding his name

Evicted Big Brother Naija ‘level up’ housemate, ‘Hermes‘ Chibueze Iyele has revealed that he and his siblings were named after gods.

In one of his post-eviction interviews, the performance artist claimed that his father gave each of his four children a different god’s name.

He asserted that ‘Hermes’ is not a stage name but what his father gave him at birth. He said:

“My father named us four after gods. My two brothers are Akhnaton and Kuthumi, while my sister is Isis. Hermes is my real name,”

Hermes is an Olympian deity in ancient Greek religion and mythology. Hermes is considered the herald of the gods.

He is also considered the protector of human heralds, travellers, thieves, merchants, and orators.

He is able to move quickly and freely between the worlds of the mortal and the divine, aided by his winged sandals.

Hermes, according to research plays the role of the psychopomp or “soul guide”, a conductor of souls into the afterlife.
