Young Nigerian rapper Lil Kesh whose real name is Keshinro Ololade has left YBNL the record label that brought him into musical success to form his own label YAGI (Young And Getting It) which also is the name of his first album. It is a norm for musicians to part ways with their label in Nigeria shortly after attaining mainstream recognition. This however most time doesn’t happen in good faith of both parties involved.
However this time Kesh leaving Olamide’s label seems to be happening in good faith. Kesh twitted yesterday
“Ok so it’s true that my contract ended about two weeks ago like we all know my coontract with YBNL was for two yearsbut that’s the business side to it. And I did state that my contract included 3 videos for me and one album? But Baddo went out of his way to shoot aBOUT 5 videos for me. Business or no business YBNL is family and will always be till I go 6ft under the ground. YAGI records is real and support or my big bro Olamide, YBNL remains my management for life, YBNL doesn’t just produce successful artists it produces artists that will help produce other successful artisists. That’s the dream Baddo shared with me about a year ago”
And Olamide also in support of Lil Kesh captioned this on his Instagram post ““Good day guys, sorry we didn’t put guys in the loop. Maybe cause we see no point in bringing it up cause family is family, business or no business. “I signed 2 years deal with Viktoh and Kesh, it ended weeks ago. But the bond is 007 leave it (James Bond level), don’t touch it. “Kesh got his own record label now #YAGI but still works with YBNL Mngnt. Viktoh is still under YBNL Mngmnt too. So worry not. The world is ours for the taking #YBNL #FamilyForEver.”
From the look of this relationship still seems to be going well for both of them. But let’s not conclude it is so just yet. Give them a few months or a year and we will know if they are tight for real or if it was just “business”.
