Bob Marley’s grandson and musician Joseph “Jo Mersa” Marley passed away at age 31.
Andrew Holness, the prime minister of Jamaica, tweeted a confirmation of the information.
In part, he wrote: “My heartfelt sympathies to Joseph’s friends and associates and to the Reggae music fraternity and fans everywhere. His untimely passing at the young age of 31y.o. is a huge loss to the music as we look to the next generation.”
“May he find Eternal Peace as we mourn his loss during this season of goodwill when we celebrate with family and friends our love for each other.”
Marley was discovered in his car and is thought to have died from an asthma attack, according to WZPP Radio in Miami, though an official cause of death has not yet been made public.
Marley moved to Florida later in life despite being born in Jamaica to Stephen Marley, another well-known Jamaican musician. He studied studio engineering at Miami Dade College.
His most recent performance was on November 13 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, according to his Instagram.
Marley released his debut EP, “Comfortable,” in 2014. He released “Eternal” in 2021.
Marley leaves behind a wife Qiara and daughter Sunshine.
Following his passing, Marley’s Instagram comment section was inundated by fans and admirers, including house musician Gordo.
