Early Life
Peter was born on the 22nd of April 1969, in Great Neck, New York State. He graduated from Cornell University with an Economics degree and then went to work for Goldman Sachs. In 1995 he joined Alliance Atlantis Communications Inc., where he served as CEO and President. In 2002, he left to create his own film distribution company, Kew Media Group Inc., which became one of Canada’s most successful independent companies. He is also a philanthropist, supporting charities such as McMaster Children’s Hospital and The Ontario Science Centre.
Peter is married to his wife Leslie Segal-Sussman, who co-founded The Entertainment Group with him in 1994 before leaving in 2000 to raise their children.
They have three children together: Tyler, Audrey, and Claire. The family lives in Toronto, Ontario. Outside of his business interests, Peter has been an advisor to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau since 2015. He also sits on the boards of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) and Toronto General & Western Hospital Foundation. His net worth is estimated at around five million dollars.
Peter’s career began in 1993 when he joined Alliance Atlantis Communications Inc., eventually becoming Chief Executive Officer and President. While there, he led successful negotiations for Alliance Atlantis’ merger with CanWest Global Communications Corp.
In 2002, however, Peter left to start his own film distribution company Kew Media Group Inc., which became one of Canada’s most successful independent companies. After taking sole ownership of Kew Media in 2008, he continues to serve as its CEO today. Peter started by creating the CBC’s new licensing division, acquiring content from Canada and around the world for airing on North American television. He also co-founded The Entertainment Group with 10 partners in 1993, which was sold to Alliance Atlantis Communications in 2001. Since 2006, he has been the CEO and Executive Chairman of Kew Media Group Inc., an international media company headquartered in Montreal.
Peter also founded Project Pink Hole, a nonprofit group that supports institutions conducting various types of breast cancer research and works to increase public awareness of the condition. They have already raised more than $1 million. With the money spent to buy them, BC Cancer Agency is now able to offer a selection of cutting-edge drugs to patients all around British Columbia.
