Angel Unigwe's mum debunks Kanayo O Kanayo's allegations, takes legal action against him

Juliet Unigwe, the mother and manager of teen Nollywood star Angel Onyi Unigwe, has issued a strong statement addressing the controversial allegations of contract breach and threats made by Nollywood veteran Kanayo O Kanayo.

Glamsquad reported a few days back that veteran, Kanayo O. Kanayo accused Unigwe of breaching their contract. He stated that Mrs Unigwe who happens to be the manager of her daughter prevented Angel from honouring their agreement during a recent production.

He claimed that Mrs Unigwe is “prone to disrupting productions” by removing her daughter from sets.

Consequently, Kanayo O. Kanayo declared his intention to blacklist the young actress and vowed to sabotage any movie set she appeared on.

In response to the allegations, Mrs Unigwe categorically refuted the false accusations and defamatory remarks made byKanayo in his video.

She emphasized their unwavering respect for the terms of any contract they sign, affirming their commitment to fulfilling all legal obligations.

Angel Unigwe’s mother vividly recounted the events spanning June 17th to June 19th, 2024, during which Angel participated in Kanayo’s film project under specific agreements, notably wrapping up filming by 9:00 pm daily.

She mentioned that despite initial doubts about completing fifty-seven scenes within three days, they proceeded based on assurances from Mr. Kanayo O. Kanayo and his movie director that the timeframe would suffice.

According to her, on the final day, filming extended beyond 9:00 pm by an additional 45-50 minutes, as a gesture of goodwill on their part. She reiterated that they left the location after fulfilling their obligations, without any objections from the director or production manager.

Her words;

“As a background to the events that led to this, between the 17th of June 2024 and the 19th of June 2024, Miss Unigwe participated in a film project under clear and agreed terms, most important of all being a daily wrap time of 9pm.

“Despite our concerns about the feasibility of filming fifty-seven (57} scenes in three (3} days, we proceeded based on the assurances we received from Mr. Kanayo O. Kanayo and his director, in person of Ndifreke Matthew, that the three days period will be sufficient for shooting and that the talent’s shooting time of 12 hours starting from 9am to 9pm is acceptable to them, moreso there will be no extension considering her prior engagement.

“On the final day, despite the agreed terms regarding wrap up time of 9pm, we accommodated an additional 45-50 minutes of filming beyond the agreed time, which was done out of the spirit of goodwill and understanding that had existed between us, Mr. Kanayo and the film Director.

“Upon completion of the shoot, we left the location without protest from the director or the production Manager Mr Cosmos Nwaihe, having performed our obligations.”

Mrs. Unigwe expressed shock following the accusations made by Kanao O. Kanayo in the video. She conveyed the deep emotional distress caused by his perceived threats to her daughter, Angel.

She furthet condemned Kanayo’s actions and labelled it cyberbullying and gender-based harassment, which were particularly painful given her longstanding admiration and high regard for Kanayo.

She disclosed their intent to pursue further legal action to ensure accountability and justice, emphasizing their refusal to be intimidated. She called on relevant security agencies and organizations to protect Miss Unigwe and herself against any potential hostility from Kanayo.
