The singer stated that she began in Lagos but has since gone global.

Tems made the statements during a prologue at the 2023 Essence Festival on July 2nd in New Orleans, Louisiana, USA.

“You know, my life is a witness. “I guess, for those who don’t know, I’m from Lagos, Nigeria,” Tems stated to thunderous applause.

Following that, the singer sang ‘Essence,’ her record-breaking joint song with Wizkid, who later joined her on the 29th Essence Festival stage.

The couple wowed the audience with their enthralling chemistry.

Tems rose to fame after stealing the show as a guest on Wizkid’s ‘Essence,’ which was included on his album ‘Made In Lagos,’ which was released in 2020.

After the release of a remix version with Canadian pop sensation Justin Bieber in 2021, the song reached at number 9 on the US Billboard Hot 100 list.

Tems has since collaborated with global superstars such as Rihanna, Drake, Future, and Beyoncé.
