Joe Manganiello, 46, of Magic Mike, formally filed for divorce from Sofa Vergara, 51, two days after the couple announced they were divorcing, according to documents obtained by HollywoodLife.
Joe has given the traditional “irreconcilable differences” defence for the breakup. Also confirmed by HollywoodLife is the existence of a prenuptial agreement that states the couple will “keep the assets they accumulated during their 7-year marriage.”
The former Modern Family star doesn’t seem to have any plans to challenge the prenuptial agreement. Joe specified July 2, 2023, as the official separation date. The divorce lawyers’ fees for each of the Hollywood A-listers are expected to be split equally. Sofia and Joe wed in November 2015, but they never had kids together.
The 51-year-old has a 31-year-old son from a previous relationship named Manolo Gonzalez Vergara. According to a source familiar with the situation, one of the factors that led the Hollywood heartthrob to decide to divorce Sofia was that she did not want any more children when he did, as reported by Page Six.
On July 17, Sofia and her soon-to-be ex-boyfriend gave a joint statement to Page Six regarding their breakup. “We have made the difficult decision to divorce,” the statement began. “As two people that love and care for one another very much, we politely ask for respect of our privacy at this time as we navigate this new phase of our lives.”
The Hot Pursuit star and Joe’s breakup was allegedly imminent before the news broke, according to a source who spoke with Page Six. The insider claimed earlier this week that “Sofa and Joe have been growing apart for a while now and are taking some distance from each other to consider their future.” When HollywoodLife contacted their respective reps, neither one responded right away. Earlier than her union with the 46-year-old, Sofia was wed to Joe Gonzalez for three years, from 1991 to 1993.
Despite the depressing news, Sofia has been having a great time in Italy as her marriage comes to an end. On July 17, after posting a series of seductive images in a blue bikini, Julie Bowen, her former Modern Family co-star, posted a message of support for the Columbia native in the comments section.
“This is what single and [flame emoji] looks like!!!”, the 53-year-old penned, along with a series of red heart emojis. Sofia appeared completely unbothered as she rocked the one-piece swimsuit and lounged on a rooftop in Italy. “Last days of vacay! Even when u r so hot I love u Ravello!!!”, she gushed in the post’s caption.
