How I ‘Negotiated’ My ‘Oppenheimer’ Role — Matt Damon Spills

Matt Damon, a famed Hollywood actor, revealed how he got his role in the popular movie Oppenheimer.

In a couple’s therapy session, Matt Damon agreed with his wife that he was taking a break from acting until Christopher Nolan called. After that, Nolan would contact Damon to inquire about joining the Oppenheimer cast.

When asked about his role in Nolan’s Interstellar, Damon recalled that he had played the role, adding that the director ‘put me on ice for a couple of movies, so I wasn’t in the rotation’.

“This is going to sound made up, but it’s actually true,” Damon said during an appearance on EW’s Around the Table. “I had — not to get too personal — negotiated extensively with my wife that I was taking time off.”

The Air actor acknowledged in a recent interview that he and wife Luciana Barroso had to negotiate his part in the sweeping biopic Oppenheimer through therapy.

“I had — not to get too personal — negotiated extensively with my wife that I was taking time off,” he told Entertainment Weekly during a cast round table on Monday, July 17.

“I had been in Interstellar, and then Chris [Nolan] put me on ice for a couple of movies, so I wasn’t in the rotation, but I actually negotiated in couples therapy — this is a true story — the one caveat to my taking time off was if Chris Nolan called. This is without knowing whether or not he was working on anything, because he never tells you. He just calls you out of the blue. And so, it was a moment in my household.”

The 52-year-old Matt has previously acknowledged that films occasionally run longer than anticipated, which may cause family members to have unrealistic expectations.

“Without naming any particular movies … sometimes you find yourself in a movie that you know, perhaps, might not be what you had hoped it would be, and you’re still making it,” the dad of four said during an on-camera interview on Jake’s Takes.

“And I remember halfway through production and you’ve still got months to go and you’ve taken your family somewhere, you know, and you’ve inconvenienced them, and I remember my wife pulling me up because I fell into a depression about like, what have I done?”

Regardless, it appears to have worked out, leading to a sizable and content family. The long-married couple, who wed in 2005 after two years of dating and two years of dating after meeting in a pub, now has four lovely daughters: Alexia, 24, Isabella, 17, Gia, 14, and Stella, 12.
