Nollywood actress and filmmaker, Funke Akindele has recalled how God used singer, D’banj to play a vital role in the success of her career.
The Box Office Queen spoke at the singer’s 20 years in the entertainment industry anniversary dinner held in Lagos on Friday night.
She recounted how d’banj’s words of encouragement helped to keep her brand ‘Jenifa’ afloat.
The mother of two stated that she ran into the singer for the first time at a club and he asked if she was working on more sequences for Jenifa, which he loved, but she told him No.
Consequently, he advised her to focus on the brand and supported her financially, an act that brought about the Return of Jenifa and Jenifer’s Diary
She said
“After the big break with Jenifa, everybody loved Jenifa so much, I was out there and everyone was celebrating me so much. I was invited to a club where I met Dbanj for the first time and he gave me his number and inquired if there is a sequence to Jenifa, I told him No and he questioned why as he noted how Jenifa is a brand”
Funke also praised D’banj for being a force in the entertainment industry as she noted how he is more than just a singer. she noted how his music has brought joy to people’s hearts and his legacy will live on forever.
“Dbanj you’re more than just a musician, you’re a movement! Your music has brought joy to our hearts, and your legacy will live on forever”.

Just as Funke Akindele recounts D’banj good deeds, the singer also appreciated his friend and former business partner, Don Jazzy.
D’banj stated in an Instagram post that the story of his 20 years journey in the industry will never be complete without Don Jazzy.
The father of one also noted that as he celebrates the huge milestone, he is reminded of the countless memories and milestones shared with Don Jazzy.
He cheered on to two decades of brotherhood, entertainment and unwavering support and expressed love for him.
