Nollywood veteran actor, Patrick Doyle has shared his opinion about Tems’ achievement at the 2024 BET awards.
Tems, one of Nigeria’s leading songstress won the Dr. Bobby Jones Best Gospel/Inspirational Award with her song, ‘Me & U’ at the 2024 BET Awards on Monday.
Tems’ 2023 song surpassed major artists like Kirk Franklin, CeCe Winans, Maverick City Music, and others to win the award.
This win left many surprised and some annoyed about why a secular musician would win in that category.
In response, Patrick Doyle advised gospel singers who felt slighted to stop seeking validation from fickle institutions like the entertainment industry.
While expressing sympathy for the gospel artists, the veteran asserted that the entertainment industry is under the influence of Satan.
He wrote,
“I feel the pain of mainstream gospel artistes who feel slighted that Tems an evidently secular musician was awarded the BET award for best gospel song. That said I believe it’s about time that committed christians stop seeking validation from fickle institutions like the entertainment industry mafia which by the way is in the grip of satan.”
In 2022, the Grammy Award winner secured the BET Awards for Best International Act and Best Collaboration for Wizkid’s “Essence.”
In 2023, Tems won the Best Collaboration award for her song “Wait for U” with Drake and Future. The song also received the same award at the BET Hip Hop Awards in 2022.
