All you need to know about coloured contacts

They say the eyes are the windows to the soul. If that’s the case, a beautiful set of eyes is a great thing to have; they might be an indicator of a beautiful soul. There are many ways of making your eyes pop, most of them being make up products. But what about the inside of the eye? That’s where contact lenses come in.

Contact lenses can be worn, and are often worn for medical purposes as an alternative to prescription glasses. They can however also be worn as a fashion accessory. The same way you can play up your glasses to look chic and in style, you can wear coloured contacts to give a whole new aspect to your look. That said, one does not just simply wear coloured contacts; you have to ensure that they are the absolute right pair for you. Here’s how:

Get a Prescription Pair

No matter what you do, always get legitimate contact lenses. These can only be acquired with a doctor’s prescription. While there may be cheaper ‘beauty’ alternatives, these may not be safe for your eyes and may lead to temporary and even permanent damage. The eyes are very sensitive and you DO NOT want to take chances with them.

Coloured Contacts and Your Complexion.

Another very important factor to consider when choosing coloured contacts is your skin tone.

If you have fair skin, cool colours like shades of blue, green, purple and grey are perfect for you. They can be bright shades like aqua and turquoise.

If you have dark skin, the opposite is true. Go for warm colours like browns and dark blues and dark purples. For dramatic effect, you can also opt for lighter browns like honey-brown and hazel and even grey. A rule of thumb is to avoid bright colours as they tend to make you look unnatural as they do not go with a dark skin tone.

The trick is to try as many colours as possible until you find one that is perfect for your complexion and the effect you’re going for. Once you’ve picked out colours based on your complexion, try on your final options, a different one in each eye for comparison. You are more likely to make a better choice if you compare them side by side.

Also, remember to try out the contacts in different lighting conditions to see how the colours behave in different light and if they are still flattering to your skin and your personality.
