The Bling Lagosians is definitely the trending topic of the moment. The FilmOne Distribution film which focuses on the luxurious and decadent lifestyle of the 1% of Lagos’ elite 1% who can actually afford to throw million dollar parties, is gearing up to be our official movie of the summer.
We had previously compiled our best-dressed list that had Beverly Naya looking regal in Wheizdurm Franklyn; Idia Aisen serving old Hollywood glam courtesy of her Style Infidel selected fit, and Denola Grey strutting the carpet with a furry friend.
While the whole of Lagos is still reeling from the larger than life event that was the premiere of Bolanle Austen Peters’ The Bling Lagosians, over here at team SV, we’re still trying to make sense of some of the outfits that left us a little bit underwhelmed.
Even though a majority of the guests in attendance showed up and showed out, some of the people on this list had us wondering whether or not they actually have a stylist, or better still a little known reflective device we like to call a mirror.
BBN’s Ifu Ennada
First off, this look has been done too many times on the red carpet and now we’re simply exhausted from looking at it. Ifu Ennada might not be the best dressed Big Brother Double Wahala alumni housemate, but she definitely isn’t the worst (This spot is reserved for Ms. Unusual). However, this outfit just doesn’t work. From the tacky looking lace to the bird (sorry fascinator) on her head, this was just a waste of a professional studio portrait session.
IK Ogbonna
IK Ogbonna’s custom Yomi Casual fit is lowkey disturbing. Even though we love a man willing to take risks with color and print, this does nothing for the actor. We’re also doing a collective eye-roll at his decision to skip a dress shirt and bare his chest. Would this outfit have worked better if he wore a dress shirt? Well thanks to IK, we’ll never know.
Linda Osifo
Linda Osifo is one of Nollywood’s bombshell actresses but this jumpsuit is more of a fizzle than an explosion. For a premiere as grand as this, we can’t help but be underwhelmed by this outfit. Someone needs to tell Linda that adding the remaining yards of fabric from your tailor, doesn’t make a jumpsuit more iconic.
Shaffy Bello
We love Shaffy Bello!! We can’t stress this enough. However, our favorite TV mum looks like she’s auditioning for a role on Alice in Wonderland Part 3. We know she loves puffy sleeves, I mean look at her character on Battleground. But this makes those sleeves look like child’s play. Shaffy is always a delight to see on the red carpet, but this clownish look is not funny at all.
Tolu Bally
Whoever thought of this look, needs our intervention. Why on Beyonce’s green earth was this made? This is the dress equivalent of Jordan Peele’s Get Out, extremely disturbing and weirdly uncomfortable. Do better Tolu.
Yomi Casual
Want to know what you would look like if you ran out of funds and made a full suit out of your bedsheet? Well, ponder no more because thanks to Yomi Casual, you have the answer you needed.
Chioma Akpotha
We know this movie is based on a party and while everyone came dressed like they were the celebrants, Chioma looks like she’s heading out for the second service at church. You can come dressed in a traditional fit, but at least make it look fresh and interesting like Beverly Naya. This Mothers Union look leaves nothing to be desired.
