Unexpected: Dog Runs Half A Marathon And Comes 7th Position in Race

During a half marathon in Alabama, Ludivine, a 2 ½-year-old bloodhound was excited by people lining up near her home when her owner released her for a bathroom break.

Excited, the dog followed the runners without knowledge that by participating in the run, she would end up at the 7th position.

The owner, April Hamlin told BBC Radio that she did not know where the dog was until a friend texted a photo showing a ribbon around Ludivine’s neck. At first, the Hamlin thought that Ludivine was misbehaving.

The canine ran the whole 13 miles to finish the race in 1:32:56 defeating more than 160 participants who took part in the event whose proceeds were targeted to cross country and track programs at Elkmont High School.

Apart from being distracted by a dead rabbit, and people along the track, the dog run along most of the race with Tim Horvath, 49, as told by Runner’s World.

According to Tim:

“One time she went over and met another dog next to the course,” he told Runner’s World. “Later on, she went into a field with some mules and cows. Then she’d come back and run around our legs.”

Jim Clemens,48, also admitted that the dog took off with the leaders once the starting gun went off. “Every time I thought she had dropped off to go back home, I would hear her coming back up to me, and she would race past me up to the two leaders,” Clemens said. “She would run off to romp through streams and into yards to sniff around for a while.” Clemens came in fourth in 1:23:15.

Horvath who came in sixth place and having finished the race in 1:32 hours, said when Ludivine crossed the line, she slowed to a walk. In admiration of the awesome dog, volunteers put a medal around her neck and started taking photos.

When BBC radio called Hamlin for an interview and requested to talk to the dog, she snuffled at the other side of the line. Hamlin said that Ludivine is pretty lazy, but following the race, she and the dog have plans for the future.
