In-case you missed last night’s MTV’s VMA , we have the brief  for you.

It was a manic couple of hours. Nicki Minaj’s opening performance started the night off as a conciliatory affair with Taylor Swift on stage too. The Weekend was on fire, as were Macklemore and Ryan Lewis.

Demi Lovato sank rather than swam on the outdoor stage. Taylor Swift took away three awards, including best video for Bad Blood. Nicki Minaj called out Miley Cyrus for making comments about her in the press last week that Minaj’s criticism was impolite and came from a place of jealousy.

“And now back to this bitch that had a lot to say about me the other day in the press – Miley, what’s good?” Minaj said while accepting the award for best hip-hop video.

Cyrus, who was standing on a nearby stage, said: “We’re all in the industry, we all do interviews, and we all know how they manipulate shit.”

Then Taylor Swift makes up with Kanye West, who notoriously interrupted her acceptance speech at the awards in 2009.

The rapper Wale makes it easy for the assembled press photographers to recognise him.

Oh, yeah and Kanye West said he was going to run for president in 2020, and Miley Cyrus released her new album for free she also the New York Times that the VMAs producer, Van Toffler, encouraged her to go crazy because he stepped down from his post as MTV CEO in April and “can’t get fired”.

Not too shabby then. MTV will be over the moon with that. It had enough standout moments to dominate the news cycle for at least the next 24 hours. Cyrus was a success as host, her outfits and poses where defiantly the most outstanding moments of the night. The live performances were mostly spot on with only a couple of slip ups.

A success.
