Creative Director Maria Grazia Chiuri seamlessly combines intricate craftsmanship with innovative design, showcasing exquisite garments that embody timeless sophistication.

Hers were made of silk jersey or metal jersey, and instead of anchoring them to a corset, she used embroidered tank tops and bodysuits that completely changed the attitude. Though they remained formal, they looked free, a quality enhanced by the models’ strappy skimmer sandals. She went back to the peplos, a traditional draped garment Dior himself cut in chiffon; Chiuri pointed to a ravishing photograph of just such a dress from 1948.

A black silk cady day dress with a hand-scalloped bib and pantssuits in white moiré and black velvet with a peplos dangling from the waistband of the pants captured part of that carefree yet elegant feeling. Here, though, it was all about the evening gowns. The collection’s gold medal goes to an asymmetrical dress with hand-pleated gold lamé hung from a leather strap.
