Yemi Alade wins Best World Beat Album with Mama Africa

Yemi Alade‘s praised sophomore album“Mama Africa (The Diary of an African Woman)” has bagged the award for “Best World Beat Album”, at the 15th edition of the Independent Music Awards, which was held at the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts in New York City.
The Effyzzie Music diva won the award beating stiff competition from Melodic Intersect, Tori Saprks, Jaime Cuadra/Ukukus Brothers and Gao Hong and Friends. The Independent Music Awards, celebrates and awards independent artistes across the globe, in various genres ranging from children’s music to rap/hip-hop. Yemi Alade also bagged a BET and MOBO Award nomination in 2016 and is currently nominated for “The Future Awards Africa Prize in Music”; making it her second nomination after been nominated for “The Future Awards Africa Prize in Entertainment” in 2015.
Miss Alade’s “Mama Africa” album which was named because of her incessant travels across the continent was a critical and commercial success spawning international hit singles like “Na Gode”, “Koffi Anan”, “Africa”, “Tumbum” etc. The “Johnny” performer is currently working on her third studio album which is slated for a 2017 release.
