Yakubu Maikyau emerges NBA new president

Yakubu Chonoko Maikyau, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, has been elected as the 36th President of the Nigerian Bar Association.

On Saturday, July 16, Maikyau won the election to become the NBA’s new president.

Maikyau defeated two other candidates with a total of 22,342 votes. Jonathan Taidi, a former general secretary of the NBA, and Joe-Kyari Gadzama (SAN), chairman of the NBA Securities Agencies Relations Committee.

Olumide Akpata, who was elected in 2020, is succeeded by Maikyau. Being the only NBA President in the previous ten years who is not a senior Nigerian counsel, Akpata made history.
