Yahoo Mail in China

According to a news piece by TechRadar, the American internet giant, Yahoo, has previously terminated down the operations of its services in China, other than its email platform, in November 2021.

Yahoo Mail, on the other hand, continued to provide services in China. However, the digital behemoth is now informing its users in the country that it would be closing this month.

Meanwhile, Tech Radar said that Yahoo’s search engine infrastructure had been out of the Chinese market for years, and its email service had shut down in 2013.

However, after the Chinese tech behemoth, Alibaba, acquired around a 20% share in the American firm, Yahoo’s email services have returned to the Asian country.

Yahoo Mail Leaves China

Yahoo Mail is shutting down its services in China for the second time, denying customers access to their data, contacts, and inbox.

The IT company has recommended its Chinese users to seek alternative email services as it is departing the country permanently.

Before its demise on February 28th, Yahoo urged its customers to retrieve their data, which included contacts, schedules, and a plethora of other things.

Yahoo vs. Chinese Privacy Law

Yahoo’s withdrawal from China in November 2021 follows the implementation of the country’s new Personal Information Protection Law.

This time, Yahoo is invoking the Asian nation’s “new privacy legislation” in its newest memo to its email subscribers in the country.

The closure is due to the “increasingly tough economic and legal climate in China, including new privacy restrictions,” according to the internet behemoth.

As a result, Yahoo announced that its email service is now officially unavailable in mainland China, which began on February 28, according to a recent GizChina story.

Yahoo Mail Global Operations

Despite the departure of Yahoo Mail in China, the tech giant clarified that its services in other regions outside of the Asian country “will continue to function as expected.”

However, global users of Yahoo’s email client will be unaffected by the tech giant’s recent move in China, which only affects its operations in that nation.

So, if you use Yahoo Mail outside of mainland China, you’ll be able to access your email and inbox without any problems.
