With three biggest wins at the most prestigious music awards in the world from MTV MAMA 2016 Best African Artiste to MOBO Awards Best African artiste 2016 now to the biggest Award in Europe, MTV Europe Music Awards; in which Wizkid again puts Nigeria ahead on the world map as he went ahead to clinch the Best African Act at the MTV Europe Music Awards 2016.
The award ceremony takes place in Ahoy Rotterdam Rotterdam in Rotterdam, Netherlands, this evening.
The announcement was done via the MTV Base Africa twitter page ahead of the show.
The singer beat African heavyweights including Black Coffee and Cassper Nyovest from South Africa, Olamide and Ali Kiba of Tanzania.
Only last month, the 26-year-old music star also won Best African Act at the MOBO Awards.
The 2016 MTV EMAs will air live on MTV and MTV Base on Sunday November 6th, 2016 at 22:00 CAT.
In a statement, Alex Okosi, Senior Vice President & Managing Director, Viacom International Media Networks (VIMN) Africa, said “It is wonderful to see African artists nominated at the 2016 MTV EMAs on the same platform as global superstars of the calibre of Rihanna, Beyoncé, Drake, Kanye West and more.”
In other categories, cultural icons Beyoncé and Justin Bieber lead the pack with five nominations each.
Superstar Adele followed closely behind with four nominations, alongside Best Rock nominees Coldplay, Best New Act nominee Lukas Graham and Best Male nominee Shawn Mendes.
Rihanna and Drake earned three nods each, including a Best Song nomination for their hit collaboration “Work.”
Adele’s record-shattering hit “Hello,” Justin Bieber’s electronic pop track “Sorry,” Lukas Graham’s soul-pop ballad “7 Years” and the Seeb remix of Mike Posner’s dance smash “I Took A Pill In Ibiza” also earned nominations for Best Song.
