Will Smith resigns from Academy over viral Oscars slap

American award winning actor, Will Smith has resigned from the academy after his action at the 94th Oscar Award night.

The actor who made an official statement on Friday 1st, April 2022, stating he will be resigning from the academy as his action during the Oscar was not acceptable.

the statement read;

My actions at the 94th Academy Awards presentation were shocking, painful, and inexcusable,

“The list of those I have hurt is long and includes Chris, his family, many of my dear friends and loved ones, all those in attendance, and global audiences at home,” the statement continues.

“I betrayed the trust of the Academy. I deprived other nominees and winners of their opportunity to celebrate and be celebrated for their extraordinary work. I am heartbroken.”

Smith further revealed that the resignation was to put the focus back on the people who truly deserved it.

It would be recalled that the actor had gone viral after a video of him smacking comedian, Chris Rock across the face for making a “G.I Jane” joke with his wife, Jada Pinkett Smith.
