Why my female colleagues aren’t begging for financial aid – Actor, Daniel Etim-Effiong

Nollywood actor, Daniel Etim-Effiong has shared an insight on why male actors turn to online platforms for financial assistance compared to their female counterparts in the industry.

In the latest episode of the “Bad and Bougie Podcast” hosted by Moet Abebe and Tolani Baj, the actor was questioned about the reason behind the increasing trend of male actors seeking crowdfunding for illnesses and other urgent matters.

Replying, Etim-Effiong based his argument on societal norms. He said that in many Nigerian communities, it’s a tradition for men to take care of financial responsibilities, even for women. This means men are more visible when asking for financial help, while women usually get support from men.

Effiong highlighted that men usually prefer to handle their financial challenges quietly rather than ask women for help. He pointed out that when men earn money, their top priority is often their family’s well-being.

If they face financial difficulties, they’re more likely to ask for help publicly instead of seeking assistance from women. This reflects the belief in society that it’s uncommon for women to financially support men.
