May Edochie, the estranged wife of Nollywood actor and self-acclaimed clergyman, Yul Edochie has opened up on her reasons for rejecting many mouth-watering movie roles in the movie industry.
The mother of four, who lost her first son last year, in an interview with comedian and filmmaker, AY Makun, recounted how actress Omoni Oboli had earnestly urged her to accept a movie role. May shared that she’s been turning down offers for the past three years, despite receiving numerous scripts, attractive roles, and even lucrative pay proposals from filmmakers eager to feature her—offers she ultimately declined.
May explained that she told them she has no desire to become an actor, even though she considers herself a jack of all trades and believes she can accomplish anything she sets her mind to.
“Omoni said she doesn’t know how I am going to do it, I can’t tell her No. I told her that for the past 3 years, I had gotten script and movie r,oles, and people were willing to pay mouthwatering amounts. You know, producers have been calling, directors have been calling, some familiar faces have called, and I have rejected everything. I said I didn’t want to be an actor or actress. I know that I am this kind of jack of all trades, master of all kinds, type of person. There are a whole lot of things I can do if I set my mind on it”.
In another part of the interview, May corrected some misconceptions about her personal life.
May clarified that she isn’t promoting divorce or separation, despite some men accusing her of influencing their wives following her split from Yul. She emphasized that this is far from the truth, as she strongly believes in the institution of marriage.
May expressed her deep love for family and marriage, viewing it as the cornerstone of a strong family unit. She highlighted that without family, she—and countless others—might not be here today.
“Some men see it like I am misleading their wives. You know why because I love family, I love marriage, and I see it as the basis for family. Without family, there would be no you or me. I am not in any way advocating divorce or separation; let me categorically state here that I am not an advocate of divorce”.
Discussing her approach to personal matters, May shared that she prefers to keep her issues off social media. Fortunately, she has a strong support system in her family, friends, and even her online community.
“Having a positive mindset is key for me. I embrace authenticity, I do not take my personal issues to social media. I have this big support system: my family and friends; they are always there for me when I need them, and then my online family members. They are like a pillar; they are reliable and dependable, and they’re ready to give it back to anyone who displays their insincerity. If you choose to display your insensitivity and when it gets over the board, they come for you”.
Glamsquad recalls that Yul Edochie’s marriage to his colleague, Judy Austin, ultimately led to the breakdown of his marriage with May. After Yul’s second marriage, May filed for divorce, obtained a restraining order to bar him from their former marital home, and secured full custody of their children.
