Glam Squad takes you through the list of some of the most popular Nigerian celebrities who are notable for their tattoos and what influenced these drawings on their body.

Davido

The “Fem’’ crooner tops our list for several tattoo drawings on his body, from the neck, down to his chest, arm, hand, belly, and his back.

The star sign tattoo on his neck is one of his earliest body drawings. For the singer, it reminds him of the fact that he is a star meant to shine and achieve greatness, and of course, he has lived up to its billing. Tattooed below the star sign is the word ‘Believe,’ a drawing emphasizing on the singer’s belief in himself.

On Davido’s chest is a tattoo of the word ‘Rona.’ Rona is the nickname of the superstar’s elder sister, Sharon Adeleke-Ademefu, owner of Rona Wigs Studio. The DMW boss is fond of Rona. One of the biggest tattoos on Davido’s arm is the phrase ‘Sweet Mother,’ part of the singer’s endless tributes to his late mother who he never ceases to talk about during interviews.

To express his undying love for music, Davido inked the words ‘Musical Notes,’ on his arm. Another tattoo drawing on Davido’s arm is the word ‘Love,’ this inscription might be traced to his love for long-time girlfriend, Chioma. Every fan of Davido knows about his love for his three children, Imade, Hailey, and Ifeanyi (deceased). The multi-award winning singer has tattoo of the faces of his three children drawn on his arm and stomach.

A HKN inscription is visible on one of the singer’s arm. HKN is the record label co-owned by Davido and his elder brother Adewale Adeleke. The Latin phrase “Veni Vidi Vici’’ first used by Julius Caesar meaning “I came, I saw, I conquered,’’ is drawn boldly on Davido’s arm. The singer is also popular as OBO, a short form of his Yoruba nickname ‘Omo Baba Olowo,’ literally translated as ‘king of money.’ For this nickname is a boldly written inscription of Omo Baba Olowo on the $10 million estimated net worth singer’s body.

Burna Boy

Grammy Awards winning singer, Burna Boy, has numerous tattoos on his body, but the Psalm 38 inscription easily gets public attention.

Explaining the meaning of the inscription, Burna Boy disclosed that the tattoo which is visible on his right arm comes from a period he describes as “dark place’’ in his life.

The singer while explaining the meaning of his tattoos said: “The first one is a Psalm from the bible. I was just in a dark place and this was the Psalm that felt like I wrote it at that time.” Burna also described the ‘God’s Love’ inscription on his fingers as “the fuel of the earth.’’
Burna has never hidden his admiration for late legendary singer, Fela Anikulapo Kuti. With a bold tattoo of Fela on his arm, the ‘Last Last’ crooner said: “This is Fela Kuti, he is like my hero, he is like the best musician that ever lived.”

As a patriotic Nigerian, Fela has a tattoo of Nigeria’s coat of arms and an inscription of ‘Omo Naija (translated as Nigerian Child),’ around it. A Scarface 3 tattoo holds a deep connotation to the singer who said only people who knew him in 2010 would understand its meaning.

Wizkid

Multi-award winning Nigerian musician, Wizkid, also has numerous tattoo drawings on his body but the face of a lion stands out. The Lion King movie tells the tale of the Lion being king of the animal kingdom.

In Wizkid’s case, it places him as king of Afro-beats. For the singer, the tattoo is a representation of his strength and fearlessness.

On Starboy’s chest is an Eagle drawing which depicts the fact that he has been soaring high since he made it to the top of the Nigerian entertainment industry. The name of Wizkid’s first son, Boluwatife, is boldly inscripted on his body, while the 7:11:10 sign is significant to the singer because it represents the day he had an accident. Just like Burna Boy, Wizkid idolizes Fela and has a bold tattoo of the late musician’s name on his arm.

Tonto Dikeh

Nigerian actor-turned politician, Tonto Dikeh, caught the attention of the public when she disclosed that it took her ten hours with a two-hour break in-between to draw the tattoo of a mystery woman on her back.

When quizzed about the meaning of the tattoo, she said “it is very deep,’’ and described herself as a “witch.’’ Tonto who has since renounced her reputation as a witch and declared herself “born again,’’ also has a self-explanatory inscription of the phrase “’Guide my steps oh Lord,’’ on her leg. Tonto says she has been working on removing her tattoos since she turned born again.

Tiwa Savage

Queen of African music, Tiwa Savage, got a full sleeve tattoo on her right arm in April 2021 and captioned it “Also known as 1ABG,’’ in an Instagram post when she first went public with the drawing. 1ABG means “Number One African Bad Girl,’’ a title the ‘Somebody Son’ crooner has given herself.
