In an interview with Vice President, R&D, Elizabeth Arden Art Pellegrino gave a detailed explanation of what Ceramide Technology is and its functions for different skin types.
Ceramides are naturally occurring lipids produced by your skin that comprise 50% of the skin’s barrier layer. Ceramides help support the skin’s barrier layer for moisture retention and help hold healthy cells together, leaving skin with a hydrated, smooth, and healthy look.
Why do I need ceramides?
Ceramides play a key role in maintaining both skin’s moisture level and firmness by helping to create a moisture barrier within the skin (similar to the mortar found between bricks in a wall). They are critical in maintaining the skin’s defense against the signs of aging. As we age, our skin no longer produces enough ceramides to keep skin nourished on its own.
Why does the skin lose ceramides?
As we age, our cell turnover rate slows down and we produce less ceramides. As a result, skin becomes thinner and the moisture barrier function is diminished. With a weaker barrier, the skin is more susceptible to moisture loss and environmental damage. This causes the skin to look dry and dull, and lines and wrinkles become more visible.
At what age do ceramide levels start to decline?
While the effects are different for every woman, as we age, levels of lipids, nutrients and estrogen diminish. Skin experiences a loss of collagen, elastin and proteins. Decreased mineral absorption means skin may not be getting the necessary micro-nutrients it needs. As a result, many women find that skin feels dry and tight and moisturizers that do not contain anti-aging benefits are no longer effective on their own. You may notice lines and wrinkles, blotchiness and dark spots and your skin loses firmness or becomes more fragile and sensitive. As a result, skin looks dull as it loses its natural radiance.
Can using Elizabeth Arden Ceramide products really help my skin look more youthful?
Yes. Elizabeth Arden’s innovative research led to the development of bio-engineered,
skin-identical Ceramides that help remind the skin how to act youthful again. Within Ceramide Skincare, you’ll find different ceramides that help the skin perform more efficiently in repairing its appearance:
Ceramide 1: Strengthens, supports, firms the look of the stratum corneum (skin’s barrier layer) and enhances hydration.
Ceramide 3: Acts as a moisture magnet that soothes and calms the skin and evens skin tone.
Ceramide 6: A gentle ceramide hydroxy acid, which naturally exfoliates dead surface skin cells and increases moisture.
Should I use Ceramide Lift and Firm or Ceramide Premiere? What are the differences between the two?
Ceramide Lift and Firm retexturizes skin for a firmer, smoother look and minimizes the appearance of wrinkles. Ceramide Premiere was specially developed for the unique skincare needs of women over the age of 50. Ceramide Premiere’s innovative technology helps skin replenish key nutrients that are lost over time. More than just a moisturizing cream, these revolutionary moisturizers deliver skin-replenishing ceramides, nutrient-rich sea minerals, and retinyl technology. They are clinically proven to intensely hydrate as they soothe and fortify the look of skin and diminish the appearance of fine lines and discolorations, to reveal the radiance that makes you beautiful.
What is CPT technology?
Elizabeth Arden’s innovative CPT technology is a powerful fusion that combines SNAP-8, with 30% more plumping power than Argireline, and Hibiscus Seed Extract, a revitalizing botanical that provides strong support to skin’s natural collagen, elastin and protein network. It delivers visible lifting and firming effects to skin’s appearance. Skin looks firmer, more cushioned and youthfully uplifted.
What is Ceramide Triple Complex?
Ceramide Triple Complex is a combination of Ceramide 1, Ceramide 3 and Ceramide 6. This skin-identical replenishing lipid complex helps firm, strengthen and retexturize skin’s appearance while delivering enhanced moisturization. Our exclusive complex helps replace what skin has lost over time and fortifies its appearance, helping it to retain moisture.
I have oily skin, are the capsules too oily for my skin (or only for dry skin)?
Ceramide Capsules may seem oily at first, however they are highly potent and quickly absorbed into the skin. Ceramide lipids deplete over time, regardless of your skin type, making the capsules an ideal serum to help replenish them. Regardless of your skin type, your skin needs to be hydrated.
Is it too late for me to start using Ceramide Capsules?
It’s never too late to start replenishing your skin with Ceramides. As a matter of fact, it becomes increasingly important to do so as you age. Ceramides play a key role in helping to maintain a healthy barrier enhancing skin’s moisture level and providing a firmer look.
How long will it take to see a visible result when using the Ceramide Capsules?
After just one use, hydration is significantly increased and the skin barrier is improved. In just 1 week, skin dryness and roughness is significantly reduced. In our clinical study, after using Ceramide face capsules for 4 weeks, the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles are significantly reduced and skin tone is visibly improved.
How important is it that I use the entire Ceramide regimen? Will I really see improved results?
The products within the Ceramide line work in conjunction with one another and are most effective when used together. This skincare line is specifically designed to deliver the ceramides your skin looses over time to provide optimal hydration.
Can I use the capsules with the other lines (i.e. Prevage) or with my existing skincare?
Yes, Ceramide capsules are a highly effective treatment product regardless of the other products you are using. Thanks to their restorative qualities, Ceramide capsules won’t irritate your skin and will also help build your moisture barrier, preparing it to receive the benefits of the rest of your regimen.
Why have ceramides become a popular term in skincare technology?
Ceramides have become popular in skincare due to their youth-restoring properties. Ceramides are the essential lipids found in the surface layer of skin that help maintain the integrity of the skin’s barrier layer. They are the mortar that holds the skin cells (bricks) together. When this barrier is intact, skin looks smooth and glowing.
But with age and environmental exposure, your skin’s natural ceramides can be compromised leading to loss of moisture, roughness, lines and wrinkles, and allowing outside irritants to get into the skin.
Can I use the Ceramide Capsules as my daily moisturizer? Or do I need a separate product?
Ceramide Capsules are a treatment product that helps to bind moisture to the skin and are designed to be followed by a moisturizer.
What is CLX?
CLX (Ceramide Lipid Complex) is a combination of Ceramide 1 & 6, essential fatty acids (linolenic acid & linoleic acid) and phytosphingosines. Essential fatty acids are important components of skin’s barrier layer. Research in the last few years has shown that essential fatty acids work with Ceramides to help provide more complete and enhanced barrier repair. Phytosphingosine is another lipid that supports skin’s natural ceramides. CLX Complex helps to enhance the skin’s ability to hold on to moisture. The result is that your skin will be softer, smoother, and more supplements.
