Victony reveals hit song 'Soweto' transformed his life

Nigerian singer, Anthony Ebuka Victor, better known as Victony has credited his career success to his hit song Soweto.

In a recent interview with Sound City, Victony stated that the global hit song transformed his life by enabling him to travel to places he never thought possible in a short time.

He added that the song’s success in late 2022 led to the decision to feature Don Toliver and Rema on a remix in 2023 to sustain its relevance, given their similar sound.

He said,

‘Soweto’ changed my life. It changed my life in the sense that I was able to travelled to places I didn’t believe that I would get to in a very short time.

“The song was already successful in late 2022, and in 2023, we wanted to maintain that success so we employed Don Toliver and Rema on the remix. They’re very big names and their sounds are not far from what ‘Soweto’ sound like.”

In other news, Victony disclosed that he has undergone four surgeries with another one scheduled.

Glamsquad recalls that in 2021, Victony survived a severe car accident which resulted in a four-day coma.

During an interview on the Adesope Live segment at the Afroland festival, Victony mentioned he is still in the recovery phase following the four surgeries. Speaking about his forthcoming North America tour, the singer disclosed that he resorts to painkillers before taking the stage.

He said,

“Honestly, I am blessed and the world can see. I’m still in the recovery phase but I’m still able to do this now. And I’m about to go on tour.

“Thinking about last year, even up until recently, I have done 4 surgeries and I am still going to do one more after the tour. But it’s still a blessing. Going in and out of the hospital.

“I take pain relievers before I go on stage and I still record. I thank God for his grace, it is not by power. I’m not his favourite child so I don’t know why he is blessing me.”
