Nollywood actress, Ufuoma McDermott has opened up on her battle with Kidney disease.
In an interview with media personality, Chude Jideonwo, the 43-year-old A-list actress revealed that she has been battling the disease for twelve years.
According to Ufuoma, she was diagnosed with stage three but it later progressed to stage four.
The mother of two shared her fears about dying after noting that she defied her doctor’s instructions on rest and went about her job.
She also recalled how she lost her younger brother to chronic kidney disease.
“My weight, people do not understand when I say I cannot afford to put on weight, I do not want to die. I have little children. I had pushed my body and it was borderline stage 4.
“Last year was a very trying time in my life where I thought I was going to die. I have battled chronic kidney for a while, for about 12 years now. I was negotiating with the doctor, she said ‘I need you to go home and rest’.
“But I was like ‘What if I go home? I promise you I will sleep today, before I leave tomorrow’. She said, ‘Ufuoma I need you to sleep now, if you can take tabs and just sleep. I need you to rest, I need your blood pressure to drop.’
“She mixed up my medications for me, long and short is that I went back on set.”
